On Sunday, March 17th, Alina and Jack are proud to be running as part of Team ALS TDI in the United Airlines NYC Half in memory of Richard Legeckis - our beloved Tato and Poppy who we lost in October 2011 to ALS. 

What had started out as a hoarseness in his throat and a mild slurred speech turned out to be the bulbar onset form of ALS which affects speech, swallowing and breathing first. For a man who had been healthy his whole life and was known for his gift of speech, love of food and boundless energy this was truly a huge shock. He had always been a vibrant man who loved diving into the waves at the beach, playing piano, working in his garden and could fix just about anything that needed fixing. He was our steadfast rock and our hero.

Jack was only 10 years old when his Poppy passed away and bravely spoke about him at his funeral in a church packed with hundreds of people. Now more than 12 years later Alina and Jack are joining forces to raise money together to help fight the devastating illness that took so much from us.

 On Sunday, March 17, we will be running 13.1 miles on behalf of The ALS Therapy Development Institute, an Official Charity Partner. We are so excited to team up as mother and son and do this together! This photo is of us running our first ever race together in 2012 just a few months after losing our Tato/Poppy.
