Welcome to Harvey's Keepers fundraising page!
Welcome to our team page!
Welcome to the year 5 fundraising page for Harvey’s Keepers! We are excited that you’re visiting our page and hope you’ll consider walking with us on August 18th in Cambridge and/or donating to the Harvey’s Keepers fund. We are so appreciative of the support we have received over the past 4 years and truly hope to make this year AMAZING!
As most of our friends know, I am no stranger to ALS and the havoc it has wreaked on my family. I’ve lost four members to ALS - my grandmother (70); my dad (41), my aunt (59) and my brother (45). My brothers’ last summer with us was the year of the Ice Bucket Challenge - and boy did he love watching those videos. That challenge absolutely shook the world and made a huge impact raising awareness (and money) for ALS.
I’ve read that about 6,000 people are diagnosed every year. Of course you know of Lou Gehrig (for whom the disease was named) and Steven Hawking (who had ALS for 55 years); Pete Frates (who has had ALS for 7 years) and Steve Gleason (in his 8th year). Most people don’t live more than 5 years after diagnosis; the familial gene in my family has a life-expectancy of 9 months after the diagnosis. That’s not even a year. It’s NINE MONTHS. There is no cure and there’s no treatment that prolongs the disease – not with this gene. So every year I struggle to find new ways to ask for donations for ALS research. Please HELP!
ALS.NET says: “ ALS is not an incurable disease. It is an underfunded one.” We desperately need your help! Please consider making a donation and/or joining us for the walk.
