Support ALS TDI's mission find a cure for ALS.
In loving memory of Peter Grootenhuis
March 27, 1960 – August 23, 2019
Peter was an outstanding father, friend, teacher and scientist. His unexpected ALS diagnosis was the beginning of our long journey with a mysterious disease. As we explored our treatment options, we tried our best to find quality therapies, clinical trials and research breakthroughs that could potentially extend Peter’s time with us. After countless hours of research and experimentation with new drugs and potential treatments, it quickly became clear that there is a disheartening lack of medical resources for patients affected with this illness. Much of this stems from a lack of research and funding when it comes to figuring out the biological mechanics behind the disease and the medicinal compounds needed to cure them.
Ironically, Peter made it his life’s goal to find a cure to a mysterious illness, Cystic Fibrosis. He and a team of brilliant researchers at Vertex Pharmaceuticals poured years of energy, time and money into finding a cure for 90% of patients affected by this cruel and unfortunate condition.
Now, after Peter’s inspirational battle with a similarly unfair disease, we feel that it is only fitting that we use the support of our family and friends to financially contribute to an organization that is working to find the biochemical clues that will hopefully lead to the cure for ALS.
Join us in celebrating Peter’s life in a way that would honor his legacy and his love for solving problems through science and critical thinking.
