On May 1st, Timm Fenton, a Seattle father of three and lifelong cyclist, will embark on a remarkable solo, unsupported cross-country bike ride to raise funds and awareness for ALS research. His incredible journey—Pedals vs. ALS— will benefit and support critical research at the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI). He will begin his TransAmerica Bicycle Trail journey with his rear wheel in the Pacific Ocean in Oregon and complete it with his front wheel touching the Atlantic Ocean in Virginia.
Timm's connection with Ales for ALS began at a 2022 fundraising event hosted by Bale Breaker Brewery. Moved by Ales for ALS's mission to support ALS TDI's research and deeply inspired by his personal connection to the cause, Timm decided to organize his own cycling fundraiser.
Timm's mother, Jan Fenton, an accomplished art therapist, philanthropist, and mother of five, passed away from ALS in 2017 after a two-year battle. Having previously lost two of her children to Cystic Fibrosis, Jan faced her ALS diagnosis with grace and courage.
“It has been a lifelong dream of mine to bicycle across the country for a worthwhile cause,” says Timm. “I will ride in my mother’s memory and to support those who suffer today from the debilitating illness of ALS.”
Inspired by last year's Ales for ALS Cross Country RV Road Trip, this year, Timm is taking the challenge to the next level by making the journey by bike and connecting with the ALS community along his route. His ride will not only raise critical funds but also foster a greater sense of community and shared purpose in the fight against ALS. We hope that his journey will encourage more community members to support and help fund research at ALS TDI.
