Celebrating life and continuing the fight- one step at a time!
Donate to #ENDALS!
Celebrating life and continuing the fight! On Sunday, November 3rd, I'm proud to be running as part of Team ALS TDI for the upcoming TCS New York City Marathon. I will be running 26.2 miles on behalf of the The ALS Therapy Development Institute, the only non-profit, patient informed laboratory solely focused on ending ALS. Your donations fuel their continuous efforts to advance promising drugs and help find a cure. Please help me by making a donation. Thank you!
MY STORY:I was diagnosed with ALS in November 2022, one year after completing Ironman Wisconsin and two years (to the month) before I plan to participate in the 2024 NYC Marathon as a charity runner with ALS TDI and an Athlete with Disabilities. This disease is brutal. It progressively strips away the ability to use all voluntary muscles, thereby taking away movement, independence and life. ALS is terminal and currently there are inadequate treatments to slow or stop progression. And, ALS can affect anyone.
At this point, ALS is mainly affecting my arms, so since my legs are still strong I am attempting this marathon! Although I’ve participated in endurance sports for the last three decades, running this marathon while having ALS, is undoubtedly the most emotionally and physically challenging athletic event I’ve attempted yet. Running with my walker is hard, and I’ve had to learn how to love running in a different way- one filled with gratitude for what I can still do. I am determined to find ways to continue to do the things that I love for as long as I can.
I am running this marathon to celebrate life. To honor movement, freedom, and determination. It is my commitment to fight for better treatments and a cure so that ALS doesn’t keep devastating people and families. It is a run fueled by love, support and hope.
Please consider giving a donation. I need a world without ALS. We need a world without ALS.
ALS is not an incurable disease, it is an underfunded one.
