Running in memory of my father, Jeff Gluck. Rising to the challenge for those who lost their strength
Help me support ALS research and find a cure!
On Sunday, November 6, I'm proud to be running as part of Team ALS TDI for the upcoming TCS New York City Marathon. I will be running 26.2 miles on behalf of the ALS Therapy Development Institute, an Official Charity Partner.
I am taking this challenge in honor of my father, Jeff Gluck, who passed away in May of 2012 at the age of 55 after a valiant two-year battle with ALS.
My dad was an amazing husband to my mother, and father to me and my two older sisters. He embraced every dance recital, car sing-along, shopping trip, and all else that came with being the only male in our family of five.
My dad was an avid golfer and photographer, a lover of new electronic gadgets, and he enjoyed gardening and playing the piano. He held leadership positions at IBM in media relations and communications, and was among the first experts there in the emerging field of social media.
Our world changed forever when my dad was diagnosed with ALS. ALS affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, and destroys motor neurons. ALS stole my father’s ability to run, walk, and eventually, speak, eat or even move. I am running because I can.
I am running in honor of the 10 year anniversary of my father’s passing. I am running for a treatment. I am running for a cure.
November 6th will be 3,811 days since we lost my dad to ALS, and I will think of him every step of those 26.2 miles.
Thank you to each of you supporting me on this journey. Your generous donations fuel our ongoing work to find promising drugs and help #EndALS
