Story

Hi! My name is Aisling McGrath and this year I have decided to run the TCS New York City Marathon for the most important person in my life — my mom.

My mom was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, in February of 2025. ALS is a devastating disease that stripped away my mom's ability to walk, talk, and breathe. Unfortunately in March of 2026, my mom's battle came to an end.

Watching someone you love face ALS changes the way you see everything. It has shown me how insanely strong and perseverant my mom was every single day. She continued to show an immense amount of courage, and her strength is what is motivating me to run the New York City Marathon.

Before I go on any run my mom told me "Go run for me." And this is exactly what I plan to do.

Every mile I run will be for her.

This marathon means so much more than just completing a race. It will allow me to raise awareness towards this terrible disease and will assist in funding the research at The ALS Therapy Development Institute that will hopefully one day lead to a cure to END ALS.

On November 1st, 2026, as I line up at the start of the New York City Marathon, I will be thinking about my mom and all of those who are affected by ALS. And of course, your support will be with me every step of the way.

Thank you all for your unwavering support! It does not go unnoticed.

Mom, I love you. This is for you.
