Become a FundraiserOur names are Olaf Stockly, Sam Clark, and Mike Meyerdirk. This summer we are riding
our bicycles from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine to raise money and awareness for
amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) research. This will not be our first ride together – in 2010 we rode our bicycles from Anchorage, Alaska to Portland, Oregon - but this tour will be infused with new meaning and purpose, a ride with a cause.
During the final week of our first tour, Olaf was confronted with the tragic reality that his dad
had recently been diagnosed with ALS. ALS is a terminal disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. With limited funding resources, researchers have been unable to find a cure, or even effective medications for this tragic disease that touches so many families. Our goal, therefore, is to ride across the country spreading awareness to communities along the way. Feeling drawn to the dedicated work being conducted by the ALS Treatment Development Institute, we ride fully connected to their straightforward mission statement: “Secure funding, develop potential treatments, end ALS”.
