ABOUT ALS

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Motor Neuron Disease (MND), Lou Gehrig's Disease, and Charcot's disease, is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. In people with ALS, the motor neurons deteriorate leading to muscle weakness and paralysis. Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with ALS, and most people live 2-5 years after their first signs of disease. There is no effective treatment or cure.
