Dear Family & Friends,
In the spring of 2000, when I was told that I had ALS, I never imagined that my family and friends would form such a powerful army to fight against this devastating disease. In the past four years, over $700,000 has been raised for research. This was not accomplished by a few powerful people, but by hundreds of simple but passionate people who together have made such a difference.
I'm reading a book called The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. He begins by drawing from scriptures; "Two are better off than one because together they can work more effectively. If one of them falls down, the other can help him up. Two people can resist an attack that would defeat one person alone. A rope made of three cords is hard to break."
My army of angels have been driven by a purpose “ to cure ALS today. They will not wait for future generations to find the answer. This benefit was appropriately named four years ago A Passion for Life. I do have a passion for life and because of that, I refuse to waste my energy asking why. Instead, I ask What can be done?
People often ask how I'm doing and what keeps me so positive and happy. My response is sincere. I draw my strength from you. You are my hope. You have given me a purpose driven life.
When I say that I have been blessed, it's from my heart. Thanks to each and every one of you for all of your contributions and support over the past four years.

Dear Family & Friends,
The word Passion inspires many different meanings. The word passion is synonymous with commitment, courage, determination and love.
For the last four years, friends, family and even strangers have come together with extraordinary passion to raise awareness of ALS as a disease. Our fundraising efforts have also helped support ALS Therapy Development Foundation (ALSTDF) and their determination to arrest this disease as quickly as possible.
Throughout this process, I have been amazed by the power that comes from ordinary people who use their time and talents to do such tremendous good works. Each person who has fueled our efforts to fight ALS with their generosity, donations, time and support plays an important role in our passionate mission of making a difference. I am confident that together we can illuminate the world of people who live with ALS today and give them a glimmer of hope.
Four years ago, the A Passion for Life theme was conceived because of Mary Lou's passion for living each day with joy. During these last four years, she has continued to live with qualities that are more than extraordinary. There is a perpetual twinkle in her eyes and smile on her face. Wherever we go, people of all ages are drawn to her like a magnet and feel the energy that comes from her willingness to move forward with a positive attitude. Mary Lou can literally dance through a room with her mere presence and does it with grace, faith in God and love.
We thank her for being our courageous, hopeful leader and all of you for being her amazing army of angels.
