Thank you for visiting the Brøderbund ALS Support Site,
My wife, Tomi Pierce, was diagnosed last year with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. As you may know, this same illness took from us Lynn Ammend, Dick Ruopp (who brought us Bank Street Writer), and Bob Packard (who helped take us public). Given that it strikes only about one person in 50,000, it is astonishing several other Brøderbunders have told me of parents and other close relatives also claimed by this incurable, deadly disease.
Unlike most diseases, ALS currently has no effective treatments or drugs which significantly thwart its progression. ALS TDI, who we have chosen to support, is in the midst of a very exciting stage in development of a molecule, called ALS TDI 00846. This protodrug may very well be the first in a series of crucial treatments that can actually help those living with ALS today. If we can raise $25,000, we will both support the advancement of this drug toward the clinic as well as the creation of additional therapies that slow and stop ALS.
I’d like to ask your help in supporting my efforts to raise $25,000 from our community. I will match whatever sum the Brøderbund alumni are able to contribute.
