About the Film

When life takes a turn for the worse, how high can hope carry you?  Pastor Bill Hassel, Craig Fox, and Carolyn Shimek were all given 3-to-5 years to live when diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Schlerosis (ALS).  Now in the fight of their lives, these three will discover how faith, family, and commitment create the hope to live.

Anyone who's ever been a child, a parent, a lover, and a believer will find inspiration.  You'll laugh, cry, and cheer, as these remarkable individuals learn to love, laugh, and live in the face of death.  Watch as they find what's really important in life and discover the true breadth of hope.

The film has gone on to win the Inland Press Association's 2011 Award for Most Creative Use of Multimedia Storytelling.

About the Film Maker

Drew Stewart first realized his filmmaking dreams while at the University of Missouri, where there is no film school.  Regardless, Drew loaned out a cheap camera from the local public access station and created Illegally Downloaded TV, a sketch comedy show which he wrote, directed, and edited. IDTV, for short, ran for two full semesters and found a legion of fans before Drew graduated in May 2009, ending the show's run.

After working in corporate video for a summer, Drew moved to Victoria, Texas to take a fall internship at the local newspaper.  It was here that he encountered a family man who had been diagnosed with ALS- a fatal neuromuscular disease with no cause and no cure.  From here Drew self-produced Breadth of Hope, a feature-length documentary film based around the father, his family, and the love and struggle that arose from the disease.

Drew also served as a director in the Real Ideas Studio Program at the 2010 Cannes International Film Festival. Drew was chosen out of hundreds to lead a team in producing a short documentary that was screened at the festival.  Alongside this, Drew's 2009 short thriller film The Case screened at the Short Films Corner.

Drew is currently working on scripts for his first full-length fiction film. He commits himself to illuminating human emotion and making life a little brighter through film.  Drew, 24, was born in Charleston, WV but now resides in St. Louis, MO.
