After losing her mother, Marie Garratt, to ALS in 2002, CarolAnn decided to use her passion for flying to raise awareness about ALS and honor her mother’s memory.

CarolAnn's First Trip
In February 2003, CarolAnn left her home on a seven month odyssey. She touched down in places such as Samoa, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Ethiopia, Greece, and Iceland, spreading news about ALS.
She documented her travels and self-published her writings in a book: UponSilver Wings. She is now selling her book and directing all sales to ALSTDI’s research. This book can be ordered, below.
CarolAnn's Second Trip
On December 2nd, 2008, CarolAnn along with co-pilot, Carol Foy, took off from Orlando International Airport to do even more for ALS and to break a world record while she was at it.
Eight days, 12 hours and 20 minutes later, Garratt and Foy set the Mooney back down in Orlando - arriving one hour prior to a massive cold front plowing its way across Florida. Thanks to the efforts of a tireless ground crew and many people around the world who cheered them on, they had reached their goal. The new book, upon Silver Wings II can also be ordered below.
CarolAnn's Third Trip
CarolAnn's third world flight ended March 12, 2012 when she landed back at her home airport in Florida. It was a magnificent 11 months of traveling to many places in the world and countries that she had not visited before. Fascinating to her were Istanbul, Turkey; Israel, Jordan, and Egypt; Madagascar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Malaysia. Although she had previously visited Australia and New Zealand, she had more time to explore and discover during this trip.
In her newest book, Upon Silver Wings III: People and Places around the World, she has comprehensively documented the flights and country visits. This is enjoyable and inspirational for both pilots and non-pilots. The complimentary DVD is underway and should be available by the end of the summer.
As with her other books, all monies are a donation to ALS TDI as she does not recover any expenses. Thank you for your donations.
