Become a FundraiserSue Gawler, born May 29, 1955, was a figurehead of her community and a much-loved force for good. Her inimitable character was exemplified by her boundless good cheer and compassion, her tireless work ethic, her love of the simple joys of music, farming, and family, and her life's dedication to preserving the natural beauty of Maine. Though diagnosed with ALS in 2010, her spirits remained undiminished, and she quickly set to work- aided by her wide circle of committed friends and family, "The Sueboo Crew"- to raising awareness of ALS and funds for research. During this period, she was consistently among the top fundraisers for the annual Walk to Defeat ALS, and was a figure at ALS awareness events as far away as our nation's capital. In her spare time, and with her energy and enthusiasm undiminished by her symptoms, she took care to savor the close-knit and vibrant Gawler bond for which our family is known. On August 21, 2015, five years following her diagnosis, she died peacefully in the comfort of her home, surrounded by loving family, amid the bloom of a beautiful Maine summer. She remains with us always, as an inspiration to live with the dignity and kindness she taught us.
This page is dedicated to her memory and to raising funds for ALS research, so that others may no longer suffer because of this disease. Please consider donating today, and thank you.
